A Detailed Guide to Buccaneer Grooming’s Beard Oil Scents

Posted by Rhys Furner on

Last night I was told a story about a guy who lost his sense of smell and with it, his ability to get an erection around his wife. While self-tending the man’s libido was totally in order but as soon as he jumped in bed with another, even the woman he had loved for seven years, his carnal instincts retreated into his man cave, leaving him limp and confused.

The hidden secrets of the olfactory are well-documented with its beneficial ties to taste, memory, even happiness, yet the above scenario is perhaps the most important because it shows us how imperative smelling is for sexual attraction and even human connection.

Thus, in devising our beard oil, while paying scrupulous attention to its beard benefits – which range from conditioning, strengthening and growth – we were also careful to develop the perfect scent to go with our other nourishing ingredients. So here is a detailed list of our three captains of smell steering our signature 'The Buc' beard oil to the shores of awesomeness.

Peppermint

Known as “the most versatile” essential oil, peppermint is a shapeshifter and a core component for most remedies including those prescribed for nausea, headaches, cancer, lethargy, respiratory problems, ADHD and a bug repellent. While keeping mossies out of your man moss is an imperative for most beardsman, we use peppermint oil as it can naturally thicken and nourish damaged hair, soothes and cleanses skin, and smells like the inside of an elven grotto.

Lemongrass

Ever wondered why Thai food smells so damn good? I mean damn good? It is the type of scent that makes you wish your nose had teeth. It’s the lemongrass. Lemongrass oil has a light and fresh lemony smell with earthy undertones. It is stimulating, relaxing, soothing balancing and adds a summery tinge to any beard.

Sandalwood

The precious diamond of essential oils, Sandalwood is the most expensive and sought after oil in the world. We use this superlative wonder for its woodsy, sweet smell and because it is easily blended with other oils, making it the perfect cohabitant. In India, sandalwood is considered holy, so if you ever make the trip, prepare for your beard to be deified.

So next time you head out into the night, all frothy with potential, with your shirt, hair, beard and shoes all tweaked to perfection, remember that looks aren’t everything – smells are pretty important too.
